About

Elizabeth holds a Ph.D. in Learning, Teaching, and Diversity from Vanderbilt University and has more than 20 years of experience in K12 teaching and teacher education. She has expertise in anti-oppressive teacher education, simulated encounters, and design-based research.

Liz has planned and instructed in courses including Social and Philosophical Aspects of Education, Design to Disrupt, Classroom Ecology, Humanizing Pedagogies, and Issues in Urban Schools. She co-authored Toward Anti-Oppressive Teaching: Designing and Using Simulated Encounters with Barb Stengel (Harvard Education Press, 2020) and has presented at international, national, and local conferences. The child of an Air Force officer, Liz grew up in more than half a dozen towns near military bases along the East Coast and in the Midwest. She studied at Davidson College, with a year abroad in Würzburg, Germany, taught high school in Central Virginia and Chicago, and has lived in Nashville since 2009. She loves books, dogs, and her children.
